Rosa Parks

in the face of ancestral memories
of persecution
unmoved you sat with your convictions
of equality & justice
arrested and imprisoned when first ever we saw your face
nearly half a century ago your courage
moving a few and then a nation
all moved since nine one one
and we remember Rosa
a candle in our darkest fears
a light to guide us
while the whole world is watching
will we become
America the Beautiful of which we sing?
