Poetry Offering from Ian Pham

One Fateful Decision

Death comes only but once in a lifetime,
But oh how unexpected and unwelcome.

Why do we love when loving means losing?
Why do we hate when sorrow is sure to come?
Why are we given sensitive feelings,
When they are only meant to hurt and hinder?
Why sustain suffering when life is so short-lived?
When in the end there is only unfulfilled relief.

Our delicate life held only by the comfort of salvation,
Our pain and suffering hidden in our love and affection.
One could only hope to achieve peace through darkness,
Not an eternal hell dying to torture the consciousness.
When feelings are numb and emotions unresponsive,
Follow the lonely path that is both gray and passive.
